This position will be part of the Craft Systems Specialist (CSS) team supporting Ship to Shore Connector (SSC) hovercraft in a wide variety of circumstances. Focus is on production support, logistics support, design analysis and technical documentation, as well as supporting fielded craft in concert with our Navy customer.
This position requires particular experience with an aptitude for troubleshooting complex systems under significant schedule pressure, often without full documentation of the issue. In addition, this work sometimes occurs in physically demanding environments.
You will be part of highly skilled team and need to interface with other team members, including those of other engineering disciplines and trades. You will have the opportunity to travel and to contribute to the effectiveness of systems that are saving lives and protecting our warfighters.
Responsibilities:
- Review engineering designs, drawings, specifications and products for assessment of system.
- Support the Navy customer to maximize uptime and minimize recurrence of issues.
- Create, maintain and communicate thorough documentation on all efforts.
- Analyze and maintain interface control documents and other technical documents required to troubleshoot the craft.
- Familiarize and analyze applicable MIL-STD, MIL-DTL, MIL-HDBK, and similar standards documentation related to SSC design.
- Attend meetings to deliver, schedule, and review technical status.
- Independently assess complex issues crossing multiple craft systems.
- Apply methodical processes and documentation to resolve issues.
- Analyze electrical, mechanical drawings and apply data to ongoing troubleshooting.
- Analyze textual vendor and customer documentation and apply to ongoing troubleshooting.
- Develop imaginative, thorough, practicable technical solutions to a wide range of difficult system-of-systems problems.
- Serve as a resource to others within the work group, department, and the organization.
- Conduct liaison activities with subcontractors and external manufacturers, as well as internal and external customers at all levels.

About This RoleWe believe people should love what they do – in this role, you will be responsible for:
- Performing the duties of a Structural Shipfitter daily.
- Job duties include but are not limited to measuring, laying out, cutting, grinding, forming and drilling of assorted materials (aluminum, steel, stainless, gasket, rubber, screen, etc.).
- Works from Engineering drawings, sketches and written and verbal instructions.
- Maintains records, forms and logs as required.
- Typical tools and equipment used in the performance of duties are: MIG and TIG welders, manual hand tools, mechanical, pneumatic, cordless and electric tools including porta power, come a long, clamps, hammers and mauls, gougers, grinders, saws, band saws, drills, tapes and scales.
- Must be capable of handling chemicals and solvents including alcohol, cleaning solvents, cutting oil, tool oil, etc.
- Housekeeping of shop and work area (keeping work area neat and clean) daily.
- Must visually inspect work to drawings and sketches for completeness and dimensional correctness.
- May direct the activities or tasks of helpers, as assigned.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

About This RoleWe believe people should love what they do – in this role, you will be responsible for:
- Welding of aluminum materials in all positions. Must be able to work from standing, sitting, lying and kneeling positions. Some work must be accomplished with the use of mirror welding.
- Climbing on and over bulkheads, up and down ladders.
- Tack welding (kneeling, standing, sitting, lying, overhead burning of steel, dragging torch line)
- Use of jacks, porta-powers and come-a longs; some of which can weigh as much as 25 lbs.
- Lifting of material and tools (jacks, porta-powers, come-a longs, etc. Also loading and unloading of parts.
- Crawling through craft on top of tees and through manholes
- Bending and twisting of your body as needed to get into different compartments.
- Operation of cranes, forklifts
- Use of power tools (gougers, skill saws, cut saws, grinders). All require two hands on tools to operate in safe manner
- Walking on tops of frames and tees (uneven walking surfaces)
- Need to be able to work with your hands.

Performing a variety of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and/or electronic inspection and test operations to determine adherence to standards, specifications, drawing requirements, procedures, etc. on any or all types of procured and production equipment, subassemblies, components, or assemblies as directed.
Responsibilities:
- Inspection and test of parts, materials, components and systems in one or more of the following areas: Receiving, Shipping, Stores, Weld/Fabrication, Assembly, Testing, Calibration, Radiography, and Coating Inspections.
- Visually examinations by means of instruments, gauges, jigs, templates or other measuring devices to include nondestructive test methods to insure adherence to standards, specifications, drawing, etc.
- May operate standard calibration and test equipment.
- Rejects parts, materials, assemblies, equipment, tooling or components which do not meet requirements.
- Performs and may assist/train other inspectors in inspections, non-destructive testing, x-ray, calibration, coatings, and observations and functional testing (including electrical, mechanical, structural etc.)
- Reviews software data on vendor supplied items to determine acceptability.
- Generates Quality reports, completes Inspection Check Lists, nonconformance documents, calibration reports, x-ray, and other Quality documents/records as applicable to the specific area assigned.
- Adheres to all safety requirements, departmental instructions and TMLS Policies and Procedures.
- Interface directly with all levels of the organization, suppliers and customers, as appropriate.
- Performs any and all other duties assigned by management.

About This Role
Job Responsibilities:
- Leads and facilitates the resolution of marine craft discrepancies by interfacing with internal departments (i.e. Manufacturing Engineering, Design Engineering, Production, etc.) and the onsite Shipbuilding Supervisor with focus on Quality, Cost, Schedule, and risk in determining the appropriate solution.
- Interfaces with Production on a daily basis to ensure discrepancies are addressed according to priority and impact to the Program.
- Engages in daily communication and collaboration with Production to ensure Production leaders are aware of and taking appropriate measures to mitigate the future recurrence of their defects.
- Analyze discrepancies and determine associated Root Cause(s) through use of industry standard Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) methodologies such as A3s and the 5-Whys.
- Conducts reviews, incorporate Quality planning, and provide approval for purchase requisitions, purchase orders, design drawings, parts, process plans, and discrete jobs (shop orders).
- Reviews for accuracy and develops procedural documentation, work instructions, and forms as it relates to the job function to ensure compliance with contract requirements, standards/specifications requirements, and Quality Management System requirements.
- Monitors, reviews, analyzes, and interprets data/metrics to identify trends, failure modes, chronic/systemic failures, and process variation to improve Quality.
- Supports the development and implementation of new technology, tools, and manufacturing processes.
- Acts as an advisor in field of specialty as it relates to assigned responsibilities/scope.
- Performs work which involves conventional engineering practice and may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.
- Receives and provides technical guidance on unusual or unprecedented problems.
