About This Role
Textron Systems in Wilmington, MA is seeking a skilled Composite Materials professional to support the development of advanced materials, thermal protection systems and high-temperature composite structures used in cutting-edge hypersonic and reentry programs. This role sits at the intersection of engineering and manufacturing, with significant time spent on the shop floor and in the lab executing builds, refining processes and conducting material testing. You will help translate design requirements into repeatable, efficient manufacturing methods while troubleshooting defects and improving quality, yield and throughput.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly hands-on and comfortable working in a fast-paced, low-volume/high-mix environment. You should be adaptable, collaborative and able to quickly iterate and make data-driven decisions in both development and production settings.
Job Responsibilities
You will work closely with design engineering and manufacturing teams to support development and production of advanced composite materials (carbon/carbon, 3D woven, laminated, resin-infused systems). Responsibilities include:
• Translating material and design requirements into robust manufacturing processes and clear work instructions in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
• Planning and executing material fabrication, including layup, preforming, infusion (VARTM/RTM) and curing.
• Developing and optimizing process parameters (resin systems, flow media, vacuum strategy, cure cycles).
• Designing and supporting tooling for complex preforms and infusion setups.
• Performing hands-on builds, trials and process validation on the shop floor.
• Developing and executing mechanical, thermal and environmental test plans.
• Analyzing test data to characterize material properties and drive continuous process improvements.
• Supporting process qualification and first-article activities.
• Investigating defects (voids, dry spots, delamination’s) and implementing root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Collaborating with design engineering on material selection, laminate stack-ups and DFM/DFA considerations.
• Interfacing with suppliers for fibers, resins, and preforms and supporting material down-select and qualification.
• Ensuring compliance with aerospace and defense standards and specifications.
• Evaluating emerging manufacturing technologies and conducting cost/benefit assessments for potential adoption.

About This Role
The Weld Engineer is responsible for assuring that Companies and products will adequately meet the objectives of the contracts or sales agreements by maintaining surveillance over all phases of the product's cycle from design until successful fulfillment of intended objectives.
Responsibilities
· Plans, organizes and directs the technical aspects of all types of welding processes and issues within the SSC group.
· Directly interface with the product design engineering team to ensure design for process and manufacturing requirements are addressed and met.
· Establishes and documents welding processes in accordance with national and military standards/specifications.
· Develops, recommends, and coordinates the implementation of improved/enhanced processes, techniques, and safety procedures for all welding performed within the company.
· Identifies problems with and identifies the resolution of welding processes, issues, and concerns.
· Performs root cause analysis with emphasis on eliminating problems through design analysis, ergonomic issues, and machine/welding/assembly process improvements including equipment/materials purchasing requirements.
· Develops overall quality plans using the systems concept identifying in terms of the product involved, general instructions, test and sampling procedures, specific parts and assembly instructions, material disposition, records, tables, charts, and graphs required.
· Reviews Engineering and Manufacturing information such as new and revised designs, specifications and bills of materials; production, tool and test equipment drawings; production and tool plans; operation and routing sheets; production, storage, and shipping methods; and facility and floor space requirements.
· Plans the minimum quality standards, test, and inspection requirements and process controls.

The CNC Machinist – ProtoTRAK will set up, program, and operate ProtoTRAK mills and CNC lathes while producing precision components to engineering specifications. About This Role
In this role, the Electro-Mechanical Technician works independently within prototype, and production environments to build and troubleshoot simple to complex electro-mechanical assemblies and cable/wire harnesses. This role requires hands-on fabrication capability, and the ability to interpret complex technical data packages. Knowledge of IPC workmanship standards is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Perform builds of simple to complex electro-mechanical assemblies, cable harnesses, and sub-systems using engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, sketches, and work instructions.
- Assemble electronic components, such as resistors, capacitors, circuit boards, and wire harnesses into larger systems.
- Fabricate, shield, splice, terminate, and install connectors into cable harnesses.
- Perform crimping operations using various crimp tools, tool selectors, and military/commercial-grade termination tooling.
- Working with hand tools such as soldering irons, wire strippers, crimpers, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, and torque wrenches
- Perform soldering operations. Knowledge of IPC J-STD-001 a plus.
- Build simple to complex wire harnesses. Knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 a plus.
- Build electronic assemblies. Knowledge of IPC-A-610 a plus.
- Assemble by hand or using semiautomatic/automatic assembly equipment.
- Adhere to ESD, calibration, shelf-life, and safety procedures at all times.
- Operate semi-complex electro-mechanical assembly equipment and verify build quality through self-inspection
- Assist in the transition of new products to manufacturing.

The Proto-Trak Machinist will produce machined parts by setting up and operating various pieces of CNC machinery including lathes and milling centers; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.
About This Role:

• Set-up and operate Proto-Trak, CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers, mills by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets and compensation; including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry.
• Sets up Proto-Trak’s, CNC lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets; indicating vices; tramming heads.
• Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, adhering to international standards.
• Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; adjusting controls; replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
