About This Role
We believe people should love what they do – in this role, you will be responsible for:
Specialist in Structural and Welding Inspection and defect identification through NDT methods including Visual Inspection and Dye Penetrant Inspection to determine adherence to standards, specifications, and drawing requirements. Prior experience in aluminum welding preferred, with capability to detect defects in both large weldments and small, detailed parts. Experience with MIL-STD or AWS acceptance criteria required. Marine experience preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Approach assignments with a high ethical resolve, ensuring reputable standing with our onsite customers.
- Capable of discerning rejectable weld defects by grading in accordance with given acceptance criteria.
- Ability to implement NDT inspection methods in accordance with written procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and process plans to determine product acceptability.
- Visual examinations by means of instruments, gauges, jigs, templates, or other measuring devices to include nondestructive test methods to ensure adherence to standards, specifications, drawing, etc.
- Experience conducting in-process weld inspections such as VT/PT of root/fill passes, backgouges. Etc.
- Generates Quality reports, completes Inspection Check Lists, nonconformance documents, calibration reports, x-ray, and other Quality documents/records as applicable to the specific area assigned.
- Adheres to all safety requirements, departmental instructions and TMLS Policies and Procedures.
- Interface directly with all levels of the organization, suppliers, and customers, as appropriate.
- Comfortable being audited on NDT Process adherence by Government customer.
- Performs any and all other duties assigned by management.

Job Summary
Working with cross-functional commodity teams, the Non-destructive Testing (NDT) Quality Engineer is responsible for all NDT activities at Lycoming and evaluating/ approving external supplier NDT processes when necessary. These activities include establishing Quality System, Procedures, and Techniques for Magnetic Particle Inspection, Penetrant Inspection and Radiography. The NDT Quality Engineer will be responsible for NDT training and testing according to industry and Lycoming standards. Be responsible for conducting internal and external supplier quality system and process assessments and improvements.
Responsibilities to Include:
· Develop NDT procedure(s), techniques, calibration methods, equipment evaluation for Magnetic particle Inspection, Penetrant Inspection and Radiography.
- Develop NDT personnel training, testing methods and required administration.
- Evaluates Special processes at external and internal suppliers.
- Conducts supplier audits to quality standards and in support of supplier selection and improvement.
- Drives effective root cause analyses and corrective action. Spearheads process improvement activities at supplier facilities.
- Performs Quality Engineering tasks like Quality Planning, Data Analysis and Process Control activities.

About This Role
A Quality Inspection Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing inspection and surveillance activities across the Production and Test processes.
- This position oversees individual contributors and lower-level leaders within the realms of Quality Inspection, Receiving Inspection, and Specialized NDT Inspection (PT and RT).
- Develop a world class RT division. Oversee and improve RT processes with a focus on efficiency, compliance, communication, scheduling, record retention, and documentation.
- Develop or attract expertise in weld inspection, inclusive of VT and PT inspection methods or Certified Weld Inspectors. Implement these individuals at key process points to eliminate traveling structural defects.
- Evolve the Quality Inspection team talent and culture through leading by example and various improvement projects, including but not limited to:

- Implementing a new team seating office area to increase inner collaboration.
- Increasing external collaboration with Production and Test customers.
- Helping define and reinforce roles and responsibilities of lower-level leaders and individual contributors, alike. Develop “standard work” for these roles to limit variation.
- Helping to address poor behaviors, both inside the team and out.
- Implementing a new team seating office area to increase inner collaboration.
- Prepare for accelerated line move through the following actions:

- Work to significantly reduce quality escapes that go undetected until later in the Production line or in Test.
- Work with Production leadership to resolve issues and increase collaboration.
- Manage staffing and certification profiles across 3 Production shifts.
- Collect capacity data to help justify expansion of the group at select line move rate intervals.

- Maintain calibration control and proper documentation for mechanical and electrical test equipment.
- Ensure maintenance of all necessary quality records and documentation in support of the group or location in accordance with the Quality Manual and specific customer requirements.
- Promote and execute quality standards, inspection processes, and test methodology, quality plans, documents and reports.
- Ensure all necessary quality-reporting measures are developed and executed. Analyze outputs to identify best practices, opportunities for improvement and risk areas and ensure necessary corrective actions are taken where applicable.
- Report to management on quality issues, trends and losses.
- Interface with external auditors, suppliers and customer quality representatives concerning quality assurance standards and systems are functioning effectively and that effective corrective action processes are in place when failures occur.
